Video: ‘I’m not sure’ – Scholes voices reservations over whether United player is ‘good enough’ in tough matches

Paul Scholes has voiced his concerns over Manchester United fullback Diogo Dalot and whether or not he can provide for the team in tough matches.

The 24-year-old has been a consistent starter under Erik ten Hag this term, which has largely come down to the Red Devils’ debilitating injury crisis; Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw were both dealt long-term layoffs so Dalot has provided coverage by taking turns on each flank when needed.

However, whilst his availability has proven crucial, his form has raised eyebrows at times. On more than one occasion, supporters have blasted Dalot for being at fault for the side conceding a goal – more recently against Copenhagen in the Champions League and Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup.

Scholes also holds reservations about whether the Portugal star is reliable enough to start for United each week. Speaking to the Webby and O’Neill YouTube channel, the former midfielder said: “I’m not sure if the right-back’s good enough, Dalot, when it comes to the big games. I’m not sure his character is big enough to handle the big games. Wan-Bissaka can do it defensively not a problem.

“Going forward he has improved, don’t get me wrong, I just think the balance of the team has been a little bit wrong.”
