Paul Scholes picks his Premier League winner and gives verdict on United’s top-four chances

Paul Scholes has shared his Premier League title-winner prediction and ranked Manchester United’s top-four chances.

The Red Devils currently sit sixth-placed as we head into the final international break of the year; behind Aston Villa and five points off of Tottenham Hotspur in fourth.

It comes after they sustained five losses in the opening 12 matches, marking United’s worst start to a campaign in 61 years. They’re now on back-to-back wins after overturning Fulham and Luton Town, but the side will be put to the test when club action returns with fixtures like Newcastle United (A), Chelsea (H) and Liverpool (A) on the horizon before Christmas.

This season’s battle for the top four is set to be one for the ages as currently, every point can drastically change where the contenders sit.

Scholes’ league predictions

On United’s probability of claiming a Champions League spot, Scholes said (via the Webby and O’Neill YouTube channel): “We know there’s a big gap when it comes to the likes of City, other teams it is much of a muchness. Yeah, Liverpool are decent, Arsenal are decent, but Man United should be in that fight for the top four and I still think they will be come the end of the season.”

He was also quizzed on which team he thinks will be lifting the title in May next year, and it’s certainly a harsh truth for the Old Trafford faithful to hear.

“I’m afraid it looks like Man City. I just don’t see anybody getting close to them,” the former midfielder explained. I know they’ve stuttered a couple of times – a couple of bad results – but I think once they get going after this international break, they’ll be difficult to stop.”

Should Pep Guardiola’s side finish atop the table, they’ll make history by becoming the first-ever club to win the league four years in a row.
