Diogo Dalot has withdrawn from international duty with Portugal due to ‘personal reasons’, as confirmed in a statement via Fpf.pt.
The Manchester United star informed Roberto Martinez of his desire to exit the camp and was subsequently replaced by FC Porto’s Joao Mario. Portugal’s wording suggests the decision was not injury or fitness-based.
Dalot and his partner are currently awaiting the birth of their first child, so hopefully, all is well on that front.
Two more Reds withdraw from international duty
The defender isn’t the only one to be ruled out of action with their national team over the break; it was announced today that Rasmus Hojlund and Christian Eriksen have been replaced in the Denmark squad following their injury scares at the weekend.
Eriksen appeared to twist his knee in the first half of Saturday’s win over Luton Town, while Hojlund went down twice clutching his hamstring in the closing stages of the game before eventually being substituted for Anthony Martial. Their statuses are currently unknown, but Erik ten Hag said post-match that they would need to be assessed to determine the severity of their respective issues.
