Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund have withdrawn from international duty with Denmark after sustaining injuries against Luton Town.

While Manchester United tried to break down the well-drilled Hatters, Eriksen was forced to exit the action early after appearing to twist his knee. He was replaced in the 40th minute by Mason Mount, while Hojlund went down twice in the later stages of the game clutching his hamstring before eventually being substituted for Anthony Martial.

Post-match, Erik ten Hag kept tight-lipped over the duo’s status and confirmed that they would need to be assessed to determine the severity of their respective issues.

The clash against Luton marked United’s last match before the international break, with Hojlund and Eriksen already being named in their national team for their forthcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers. However, on Monday, it was announced that they had left the camp, and Jesper Lindstrom and Jens Stryger would be taking their places.

It remains to be seen what this means in terms of the Danish pair’s situations; on the one hand, it could be that their injuries are too severe to play over the next week, although it may also be a precautionary exit to give them some much-needed rest.
