Manchester United will send scouts to watch Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio this weekend.
One of the biggest problems for United this season – due to injuries – is our defence. Too many key personnel have missed the start of the season and we are now starting Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans at centre-back.
Take nothing away from Maguire or Evans, but it doesn’t help that Raphael Varane has gone backwards.
So, in theory, in makes perfect sense for United to identify centre-backs throughout Europe and maybe beyond.
According to Correio da Manha in Portugal, Sporting centre-back Inacio is attracting scouts from Real Madrid, Manchester United and Liverpool. All three clubs will send their scouts to monitor the performance of the defender in a top of the table clash.
Lisbon are currently on top of the league with 28 points, with Benfica on 25 in second place, so there’s a lot to play for in the derby.
The Portuguese outlet suggest United are considering a move in Janiary to secure the signing of the 22-year-old defender.
Inacio has a release clause of €60 million and it is reported that United are prepared to pay that by making an initial payment of €45m and the remaining €15m in instalments.
We’ll keep an eye on Inacio this weekend and keep you updated.
