Luton Town boss expecting the best version of Manchester United

Luton Town manager Rob Edwards has recognised that Manchester United’s bad form may be deceptive.

It’s probably the best approach to take as a manager of a newly promoted side coming to Old Trafford, but Edwards won’t need to give his players any extra motivation.

Luton Town defender Teden Mengi has already told the press that he has a point to prove when he returns to Old Trafford for the first time this weekend.

We will also see former United winger Tahith Chong return on Saturday.

However, Edwards has stressed that there may be no right time for his Luton side to play Manchester United. He will be hoping that his players can build on last weekend’s 1-1 draw against Liverpool.

“I think they’re looking forward to it,” Edwards said, as per Vavel. “It’s another brilliant game for us, another giant of English football. Going to Old Trafford is a real special occasions for us. But again, as it was for (the visit of) Liverpool last week – we want to compete and we want to do well. We’ll enjoy it a while lot more if we do.”

United can’t afford to drop more points in the league and Ten Hag will demand a win so that the international break isn’t full of negativity on the club. That said, we can expect some movement during that period with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s attempted buy-in.

When asked if it was a good time to face United, Edwards said: “They’re Manchester United, they’re expected to be at the right end of the table. They’ll be expected to beat us. We’re going to expect the best version of them and I thought the performance in the first half before Marcus Rashford’s sending off (against Copenhagen) was excellent. It was as well as they’ve played all year, so I’m expecting that version of them and that’s what we’re preparing for. It’s a really difficult game. We’re going to have to be right at it to get anything from it.”
