Premier League clubs to vote on temporary ban for loans between related parties

Manchester United and the other 19 Premier League clubs are to vote on a temporary ban stopping teams from loaning players from clubs under the same ownership in January.

The measure would prevent Newcastle from abusing the system by signing players from clubs also owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).

Football was bound to encounter issues like this when it started welcoming state ownership into the game, and it’s something I hope Manchester United never fall victim too, yet there were fans twerking for the Qatar state to take ownership of the club not long ago.

However, the vote in question (November 21) is a response to rumours Newcastle want to sign former Wolves captain Ruben Neves from Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Hilal, as per The Athletic. It must be voted for by 14 of the 20 Premier League clubs to be implemented.

The temporary ban will only apply to incoming loans, not outgoing, and the reason it’s not permanent for now is they want more time to find a concrete solution.

Other Premier League clubs that fall under the multi-club ownership model include Chelsea and Man City.

Meanwhile, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is trying to buy a 25% stake at United and he already has involvement in two other European football clubs, including Ligue 1 side Nice.
