Erik ten Hag collects award and vows to bring success to Manchester United

Erik ten Hag attended the FWA Northern Managers Awards night on Sunday.

The Manchester United manager was given an award for leading the Reds to Carabao Cup glory last season. It was a triumph that ended a six-year trophy drought.

Ten Hag collected the award on stage and gave a speech during which he vowed to achieve higher targets at United.

“I’m sure we are in the right direction and I’m happy to be here and to get this reward,” Ten Hag said, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News. “I’m really grateful to the football writers for this award.

“What we achieved last year with the Carabao Cup, it was small, and we achieved an FA Cup final, which still hurts, but it’s not enough, but many managers and many players know, it’s not so often you win many trophies.

“But once you win such a trophy, you have to celebrate it because it’s a very special moment which is not given to so many. So we did that, and we are still really pleased with it, but it’s not enough at Manchester United. We have higher targets and we have to go and get there.”

United crashed out of the Carabao Cup last week after losing their fourth round tie 3-0 at home against Newcastle.

Next up is a trip to FC Copenhagen on Wednesday night and it’s a must win if United intend to qualify for the knockout phase of the competition. Anything less than a win and the pressure on Ten Hag will get even worse after a slow start to the season.
