Manchester United handed boost to sign highly-rated Nice defender

Nice are reportedly willing to cash in on Jean-Clair Todibo next summer.

The French centre-back has been heavily linked with a transfer to Manchester United and it is clear that Erik ten Hag needs defensive reinforcements.

It is believed that United were tracking the 23-year-old over the summer as they planned for the potential sale of Harry Maguire, however, the England international did not leave Old Trafford.

Maguire ultimately rejected the chance to leave, but he has somehow managed to find his way back into Ten Hag’s squad.

According to 90min, United are still interested in Todibo but the centre-back is also attracting attention from Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle.

Nice are co-owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his plans for a United buy-in could open the door to transfers between United and the Ligue 1 outfit.

Todibo is regarded as one of France’s top defensive prospects after joining Nice from Barcelona in 2021. A January moved is not being ruled out but a lot will depend on whether Ratcliffe can reach an agreement with the Glazers before Christmas.

Once that is done, Ratcliffe and co can take a closer look at the Nice squad and pick which players they think would be a positive addition at United. This won’t please Nice fans, but they know everything will take the back if Ratcliffe’s bid for the biggest club in England is successful.

Italian duo AC Milan and Atalanta are monitoring the French defender.
