Erik ten Hag has reflected on one match where Manchester United players showed their character and spirit.
The Dutchman has overseen United’s worst start to a season in 61 years, leading to speculation and doubts over his future in the dugout.
Whilst he can be rightfully criticised for some of his team selections, in-game substitutions and signings, you’d struggle to count a handful of matches in which the players have actually looked remotely bothered to get into second gear or see out a win. Responsibility is on them all, so blame can’t just be cast on one person.
Still, Ten Hag believes that he has the right crop of members in his squad to turn things around. He pinpointed the emphatic win over Brentford in October as an example of what United are capable of; they came from 1-0 down to win 2-1 in injury time thanks to a brace from Scott McTominay.

He said, via Manchester Evening News: “Remember the fight we showed against Brentford, If there wasn’t spirit of characters in the dressing room, you couldn’t do this.”
