Manchester United believed a more seasoned striker could help Rasmus Hojlund’s development, but that was clear to anyone with half a brain before we signed the young Danish striker.
There is no doubting Hojlund’s ability as far as I’m concerned, but he has been feeding on scraps since coming into this United side.
A report from the Daily Mail suggests United are considering adding a more seasoned centre-forward to their squad in January, with belief that the right addition would add value to Hojlund’s development.
The same article names three strikers being monitored by United. They include Brentford’s Ivan Toney, FC Porto’s Mehdi Taremi and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.
Meanwhile, Hojlund is yet to open his Premier League account, though he has three goals in as many Champions League matches for the club.
Furthermore, it doesn’t help that a back injury meant Hojlund missed a number of games at the start of the season.
At such a young age, the former Atalanta striker was expected to sign for United and instantly become our main man up front. The only other centre-forward option for Ten Hag is Anthony Martial and I would be worried if our new striker wasn’t able to get into the team ahead of the Frenchman.
So, who at the club signed United thinking one striker, aged 20, was enough for the season ahead? Especially when Ten Hag’s primary target had been Harry Kane.
It sounds like another situation that would have been prevented if the Glazers weren’t owners.
