Preview: Manchester United travel to face winless Blades to build on emphatic Brentford win

Manchester United return to action this Saturday when they travel to face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane for an 8pm kick-off.

The Red Devils entered the international break on the back of an emphatic 2-1 victory over Brentford, with both the equaliser and winner coming from Scott McTominay in injury time. After back-to-back defeats at Old Trafford, a win that day was crucial.

Meanwhile, the Blades’ return to the top flight has been anything but ideal; having lost their most prolific player, Iliman Ndiaye, in the closing stages of the summer transfer window, they entered the 2023/2024 campaign as the undoubtable underdogs.

How the sides fare

Paul Heckingbottom’s side now sit rock bottom of the Premier League table after tallying just one point on the board thus far; the manager has overseen seven losses and one draw, meaning he is still seeking that elusive first win. Their last outing was a 3-1 defeat to Fulham and their last home clash saw them suffer an 8-0 thrashing against Newcastle United.

On the other hand, United’s start to the term has been their worst for 34 years; four wins and four losses have them 10th-placed. Such poor form has continued into Europe, where they are yet to win a game in the Champions League. Erik ten Hag will know how pivotal a winning run could be to his tenure over the coming weeks.
