It was looking increasingly likely over the weekend that Casemiro was set to be the latest name added to an ever-growing list of injured players for Manchester United.

The midfielder had been called up to take part in two World Cup qualifiers over the October international break but last Friday, he hobbled off the pitch in the 79th minute after requesting a substitution against Venezuela.

Fernando Diniz, the Brazil coach, confirmed post-match that Casemiro had suffered a ‘blow’ to his ankle. He was consequently unable to train with his teammates over the weekend and instead underwent a physiotherapy session, as confirmed by Globo.

However, Standard states that Casemiro has since taken part in Brazil’s latest training sessions in preparation for their clash vs Uruguay, which is scheduled for the early hours of Wednesday at 1am.

TNT Sports has also predicted the 31-year-old to start the match, meaning he is seemingly expected to be back to full fitness ahead of kick-off.

If this remains the case, Casemiro will likely take his usual role in the starting 11 when the Reds return to action against Sheffield United on Saturday evening.
