Victor Lindelof has addressed the speculation regarding his future at Manchester United amid rumours of a contract extension.
The centre-back is currently on international duty with Sweden after a hectic start to the season at Old Trafford; Lindelof was not Erik ten Hag’s first-choice in the backline from the get-go, however, injuries have meant that he has been called into action and been granted a starting role in recent games.
Lisandro Martinez is currently ruled out of action until the new year with a reaggravation of the metatarsal injury that ended his 2022/2023 campaign. Consequently, Lindelof has been preferred to Harry Maguire when it comes to partnering Raphael Varane.
Having been signed by Jose Mourinho in 2017, the 29-year-old’s deal is set to expire in the summer of 2024, with United having the option of triggering a one-year extension. Reports have strongly suggested that this will be the case with Lindelof, as well as fellow defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Lindelof braced for contract extension
Lindelof touched on the matter himself at a press conference for his national team, saying (via Manchester Evening News): “It feels quite likely that it will be activated. Absolutely [I want to continue at United]. I enjoy myself very much. I am entering my seventh year at the club.”
“I feel good and the family feels good,” he continued. “It’s a club that I really like and that I love to represent.”
