Manchester United could be set for a busy January transfer window – at least on the outgoings front. There are several players with uncertain futures after failing to seal moves away from the club in the summer.

Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek and Harry Maguire are among the players who could leave and Anthony Martial also falls into that category.

The Frenchman has dropped further down the pecking order this season following the arrival of Rasmus Hojlund, who has started in spectacular fashion, scoring three goals in the Champions League already.

Martial is under contract until the end of the season and it remains to be seen whether United decide to trigger their option to extend his deal for an additional season.

Speaking recently, journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano explained that Martial could leave the club if an attractive proposal is made in January, hinting that United will not stand in his way.

“There are also fresh rumours surrounding Anthony Martial’s future, and my understanding is that the situation remains same as July/August; with an important proposal, Martial could leave in January,” Romano told CaughtOffside.

“Otherwise, Man United would be happy to keep him as part of the rotations. He was never actually close to leaving in the summer as Man Utd never received an important bid for him at that time.”

As Romano states, it does seem like Ten Hag is fine with either outcome as he is currently short of options in a number of areas but accepts that departures may be a must.

United brought seven players in during last summer’s transfer window but they are no closer to solving their current injury crisis, leaving Ten Hag with no choice but field players out of position most weeks.

Martial is the only senior out-and-out striker that can replace Hojlund if the Dane sustains an injury but Martial’s own injury record hardly fills you with confidence.
