Mary Earps’ Lionesses shirts sell out same day they’re put on sale by Nike

Mary Earps’ England shirts were finally put on sale by Nike this week and sold out the same day – despite the brand not formally announcing the release.

The goalkeeper led her own campaign in the summer after Nike opted against selling her replica jersey for the Women’s World Cup, in which the Lionesses finished as runners-up and she was awarded the Golden Glove.

Earps voiced her upset and frustration at the decision on more than one occasion, and even offered to fund the sale herself so that supporters were able to don the ‘keeper’s colours.

It came after another sensational season for the Nottingham-born star; she played a pivotal role in Manchester United’s Women’s Super League campaign, FA Cup run and in achieving Champions League qualification for the first time in the club’s history. At international level, she added the Finalissima trophy and Arnold Clark Cup to her illustrious honours list.

Nike eventually performed a U-turn on their stance and sanctioned the first release of shirts on Monday through the FA website. Despite fans not being notified, all supply sold out later the same day.

Earps took to Instagram (@1maryearps) to react, saying: “Didn’t realise these were going on sale today. And you’ve sold them out already!

“More are coming before the end of the year, and in more sized for kids and adults – so stay tuned.

“Thank you all for your incredible support on this. You guys have made this happen.”
