Manchester United have gone backwards this season.
That is no secret after the start the Reds have had to the 2023/24 season. Six defeats in 10 matches is enough to tell you we are embarking on a crisis.
Erik ten Hag has been in these situations before in his career, but not with the pressure of managing the biggest football club in the world. I trust the Dutchman and want him to succeed.
But it’s also okay to say we are not meeting expectations and that our standards are at an embarrassing low. What happened to bald knows best?
Speaking to reporters ahead of Manchester United vs Brentford, Ten Hag admitted that United’s levels have dropped but he is eager to bounce back by reaching previous heights and beyond.
“We’ve dropped the levels and we have to get back at those,” Ten Hag said, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News. “There are reasons for that, but still, it’s not acceptable and we have to fight against it. They have a good foundation for the way we play, we have rules and principles. When they help each other and support each other, we will play better.”
Of course, we’re not blaming the manager for the problems United have witnessed this season.
From the ownership to injuries – as well as on-field issues – Ten Hag has not had it easy since arriving at Old Trafford. He has had a lot to deal with!
Ten Hag added: “We’ve had to make changes almost every game and the routine changes. You make mistakes as a team and the opponent takes benefit from it, so we need to be on the same page, we need communication in such moments, to be well organised.”
