Manchester United have been busy dealing with Tuesday night’s ticketing fiasco which saw over a thousand Galatasaray fans congregated around the stadium during the game in sections for home fans only.

The club has told fans who have complained about the issue that they are taking steps to prevent it happening again in the future. On the night, our own fans’ safety was put under risk and we all deserve to know who was responsible for that.

According to BBC Sport, United are still investigating the matter and will have an update next week on why it occurred. The report adds that United have not discounted the possibility that some of UEFA’s allocation of Category A tickets for the home part of the stadium that would have been given to Galatasaray guests, club partners and families as normal practices in the Champions League was part of the problem.

BBC Sport reporter Simon Stone believes the club are working on technology that would tie a ticket to a specific device, in an attempt to stop touting.

United explain some tickets were ‘unofficially accessed by, or transferred to’ visiting fans, even though they were all allocated to season ticket holders or members.

I can’t help but think the club should take the minority of the blame for trying to sell tickets for maximum profit, along with their hospitality packages. The suggestion that they were going to blame season ticket holders filled me with rage this morning, but sadly I wouldn’t put anything past them.

Furthermore, United reject the idea that tickets donated to the Manchester United Foundation by season ticket holders were sold for more than the standard ground admission price.
