Diogo Dalot heaps praise on Manchester United teammate for his influence on and off the pitch

Diogo Dalot has lauded Bruno Fernandes for what he brings to Manchester United both on and off the pitch.

Dalot has had the pleasure of playing with the midfielder at both club and international level in recent years, so the pair have certainly formed quite a bond.

Fernandes, 29, has been a pivotal figure at the heart of the Red Devils’ team since he arrived in 2020 – an irreplaceable cog in the ongoing project. His numbers across the first two years of his United career were astounding, though they’ve proven hard to replicate as of late.

He was named club captain in the summer after Erik ten Hag opted to demote Harry Maguire from the role; Fernandes had already spent the majority of the 2022/2023 campaign donning the armband in the Englishman’s absence.

Dalot hails Fernandes

Dalot spoke of the impact Fernandes has on the squad, telling Portuguese outlet A Bola: “I think Bruno’s ability and influence on a team like ours is remarkable, not just because of his footballing qualities, which are unanimous, but also because of what he gives the team off the pitch, the leadership he has, the energy he gives.

“Having players like that is always an advantage for us, and a positive experience for every player who has the ability to play with him.”

Now, the No. 8 is tasked with steadying the ship among his teammates following a poor run of results, with United having just overseen their worst start to a season in 34 years.
