Manchester United investigate ticketing fiasco after Galatasaray defeat

Approximately 1,000 Galatasaray fans had tickets in the home end for the Turkish champions’ 3-2 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Champions League last night.

It was also disappointing to see clips after the match of Galatasaray fans parading around our stadium, which has been left in ruins by the greedy Glazer family. I don’t think the police in Seville last season would have let us do that, not that we wanted to, nor the authorities in Bavaria last month.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are investigating how at least 1,000 tickets in the home end of their Champions League clash against Galatasaray fell into the hands of visiting supporters.

It was telling when there was jubilant celebrations around the stadium after the match once United fans had left.

Galatasaray fans were spotted seated together in the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand, Sir Bobby Charlton Stand and the upper tier of the Scoreboard End. It is believed some of the Turks took down a section of the banner dedicated to Sir Matt Busby that hangs over that tier, reading “It’s glory and honour,” as well as “There’s nothing on earth like being a Red.”

The MEN report suggests that initial indications are that the majority came either via ticket touts or through official channels, with UK-based Galatasaray fans able to buy tickets for the home sections. Those supporters would have been able to buy an official membership to enable them to buy tickets in the home end, or opt for the hospitality options available.

I can’t help but think the club will find a way to penalise all season ticket holders after this investigation, even those that only pass their tickets on to friends for face value or free. All while the club fleece fans for hospitality.
