(Video) ‘It is not the first time’ – Ten Hag expects United players to show character after bumpy run

Manchester United have endured a poor start to the 2023/24 season, but the only way out of this run of form is by winning football matches. The next chance to do that is tomorrow night in the Champions League against Galatasaray.

After losing the first match in the group stages to Bayern Munich, United find themselves in a familiar position this season as they look to bounce back.

Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace hardly helps and a number of players have been singled out for criticism following another underwhelming performance.

However, Erik ten Hag needs to rally his troops and get them fighting as one.

The manager told reporters ahead of the Galatasaray game that he expects the character of his side to be shown in the coming weeks as they attempt to come out of a bumpy string of results.

Ten Hag said: “They’re experienced players, they know how to deal with it. It is not the first time.”

The injuries we’ve already suffered this season – as well as multiple decisions going against us – have come back to bite Ten Hag in the rear end. He is still limited for options and doesn’t have a recognised left-back available. Matters were made worse this afternoon when the manager confirmed that Lisandro Martinez requires further surgery on his foot injury.

It’s all far from ideal but a win against Galatasaray would help.
