Match preview: Reds must ignite positive run of form with convincing victory against winless Clarets

Manchester United make the trip to Turf Moor this Saturday as they return to Premier League action with an 8pm kick-off.

The Red Devils’ start to the season has been far from ideal by all accounts; their Champions League opener on Wednesday, which ended 4-3 in Bayern Munich’s favour, marked their fourth loss of the term – and third straight defeat.

Whilst injuries and player absences have played a significant role in such form, United have more than enough depth and quality to be seeing out results until key members of the squad return to the fold.

It’s expected that Mason Mount and Raphael Varane will be deemed fit enough to travel this weekend, as they returned to team training at the beginning of the week, but Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are set for more lengthy layoffs.

How the sides fare heading into Saturday

Burnley are yet to taste victory in their first four games back in the top division and have just one point on the board, which came from Monday’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.

Their three losses prior to that were 3-0 to Manchester City, 3-1 to Aston Villa and 5-2 to Tottenham Hotspur.

Meanwhile, United’s latest results include – apologies for the reminder – a 3-1 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford, 3-1 away to Arsenal, a 3-2 win over Forest, 2-0 loss away to Spurs and a 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on opening day.

The midweek tie saw United concede three goals in three consecutive matches for the first time since 1978.
