(Video) ‘A lot is going against us’ – Ten Hag gives honest assessment of United’s start to season

Erik ten Hag has given an honest assessment of Manchester United’s form after they sustained their third consecutive defeat last night.

The Red Devils lost 4-3 to Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in their Champions League group-stage opener, and a win would’ve worked wonders for the side’s morale after their substandard start to the Premier League campaign.

However, they must now pick themselves up and get ready to go again this Saturday as in top-flight football, there’s no time to feel sorry for yourselves. Fixtures are now coming thick and fast and each one provides a chance to ignite a positive run of form.

Ten Hag reacts

Speaking post-match in Germany, Ten Hag reflected on the tie and his side’s recent results.

“Disappointed because we should stay in the game. If you score three goals at  Bayern, you have to take at least a point.

“I wouldn’t say that [that we’re making it too easy for teams to score]. We are in a period [where] a lot is going against us, but we have to make our own luck. Where we can’t keep going, can’t keep consistent, do the rules and the principles of our game, then you concede goals – but also we have played great teams in the past three games.”

Regarding Andre Onana’s early error that led to Bayern’s first goal, the manager said: “It’s about the team. Mistakes are being made but you have to bounce back as a team. When you score three goals at Manchester United, and one player makes a mistake, it’s done – it’s gone. That is what we as a team have to believe, that we can always bounce back. Tonight, showed it; we stayed in the game, you fight yourself in the game, keep going – even when there’s mistakes being made.”
