(Video) Pep Guardiola laughs off the prospect of Manchester United being title contenders

Pep Guardiola has seemingly placed Manchester United as underdogs when comparing the talent in this season’s Premier League title race.

The Manchester City boss is looking to defend the treble after becoming just the second English side in history – after United – to achieve such a feat.

City could also become the first-ever team to win four league titles in a row should they finish atop the table next May – a situation which all rival clubs will be looking to prevent across the term.

United will be keen on acquiring silverware in some form, too, but whether or not they will be competing for their 21st title remains to be seen, as they haven’t started in the most promising way; Erik ten Hag’s side have overseen two wins and three losses in their opening five games.

They kickstart their Champions League campaign tomorrow with an away clash against European heavyweights Bayern Munich, before starting their Carabao Cup defence next week versus Crystal Palace.

Guardiola on league competition

Guardiola reflected on the season so far in England, saying: “How strong is Arsenal? Yesterday we saw the game at Goodison Park, they are [were] exceptional. Liverpool, again, the mentality is continued there.”

When asked about United, the Spanish coach scoffed.
