Preview: Bayern Munich vs Manchester United | We’ll take a draw

Manchester United get their Champions League campaign underway on Wednesday night against Bayern Munich.

I will be setting off on my travels to Munich at around midnight – via Frankfurt – and I’m looking forward to soaking in all of the atmosphere around Octoberfest.

Sadly, the annual festival has made it tricky for a lot of Reds to get to Munich. Over 3,700 will travel regardless of bad results on the pitch.

Manchester United are looking to go far in Europe’s most prestigious competition this year after failing to have a real impact on the Europa League last season.

It all kicks-off with potentially one of the hardest trips we could have pocketed against the Bundesliga champions.

United will face an almighty battle in Bavaria, and they will be wary of one man more than any other, and that is summer transfer target and England captain, Harry Kane, who has settled in well with his new team over in Germany.

Head-to-Head

Manchester United and Bayern Munich have faced off on 11 separate occasions — all in the Champions League — but, sadly, it’s the Germans that come out on top.

Bayern have won four matches and there’s been five draws. One of United’s two wins over the Bundesliga giants came in the final back in 1999.

Interestingly, Bayern have never tasted defeat on home soil in the group stages of the Champions League.

Bayern Munich vs Manchester United prediction

Although United have started the season poorly with three defeats in five Premier League matches, I’m expecting a very close and tight encounter.

Hopefully, United’s intensity can last more than 15-20 minutes and we can get into a position where we’ve a goal to defend.

I’m going for a 1-1 draw at the Allianz Arena and it’s the best we can hope for with all of the injuries in the squad.
