Erik ten Hag views Bayern Munich as one of the Champions League favourites

Manchester United face a mammoth clash in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Bundesliga champions dropped points in their draw against Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend and will look to go out guns ablaze against United in their Champions League opener.

It goes without saying that both teams have had very different starts to the new season. The Reds are 12th in the Premier League, while Bayern are second in the Bundesliga.

United manager Erik ten Hag is aware of the power Bayern pose, and thus cited them as one of the favourites to win the Champions League this season.

“[Bayern] Munich are one of the favourites to win the Champions League,” Ten Hag said, as quoted by BBC Sport reporter Simon Stone. “We have to be good there. We need character.”

United go into the game off the back of a 3-1 defeat to Brighton at Old Trafford. To make matters worse, we’ve lost three of our first five games in the league.

It would certainly help if we could start the Champions League with a positive result.

Ten Hag will have mutual respect for Bayern from his days working there as a coach under Pep Guardiola. I wouldn’t be surprised to see links with him moving to the German giants in the future. Whether he goes or not is a separate story.
