Roberto De Zerbi hails Brighton after 3-1 win at Old Trafford

I hate to say it but Brighton are getting far too used to beating Manchester United. Their manager, Roberto De Zebri, claims the latest win over the Reds was ‘no surprise’ as his team celebrated a fourth straight win in Premier League meetings between the two clubs.

With four wins from five matches, the three points took Brighton into fourth place in the table. Furthermore the 3-1 win saw United’s 31-game unbeaten run at Old Trafford come to an end.

Brighton could have made it 4-1 at the end, but new signing Ansu Fati was denied by Andre Onana in what was the only positive contribution from the Cameroonian keeper throughout the game.

De Zebri was asked how a club with Brighton’s limited budget can keep beating United. He replied (as quoted by the Daily Mail): “Football is nice because the small team can win in every moment. I think Brighton is becoming not a big team, but it is not a surprise.

“The quality of the players and organisation of Brighton is very high. I don’t know the problems of Manchester United, but I can explain my team.

“We are used to working in our style, we are playing with courage, we defended at Old Trafford man to man all the time and we kept the ball in every situation.

“In the first half, we suffered a lot with the pressure, but after that we played a great game.”

The Seagulls manager added that Brighton struggled with United in the opening 15-20 minutes.

“We played a great, great game. We deserved to win, we played well. In the first 15, 20 minutes we suffered a lot because Man United played in a different way than we prepared for but after that we played a great game.

“’I think the game was changed when we kept the ball. In that moment their pressure was strong and to keep the ball helped us to control the game and then we have four attackers who are very fast and very good.”

  1. Another match; another shite performance. Scarcely hurts now, we’ve been so poor for so long. Still have faith in ETH, but we keep turning out results like this and I can’t see what he can do to turn things round. Get the feeling players are going out there expecting to lose.
Who’s next? Oh yeah: Bayern bloody Munich. We’re not making the knockout stages, are we?
