Paul Parker will be fuming if Anthony Martial starts against Brighton on Saturday.
So will many others but probably not to the same degree as former Manchester United right-back Parker, who says people will be calling for Erik ten Hag’s head if Rasmus Hojlund is benched at the weekend.
You know, the 20-year-old who just returned from a back injury?
Speaking about Manchester United’s upcoming game against Brighton and how important it is for Rasmus Hojlund to start ahead of Anthony Martial, Paul Parker said: “If he doesn’t start against Brighton, then all fans will want Erik ten Hag fired, and it would almost be justified.
“It wouldn’t make any sense if he started on the bench. Martial shouldn’t even be on the bench. There must be a youth player who is better who can sit on the bench, and Hojlund can be the first striker.
“All Manchester United fans are fed up with seeing a player with a lousy attitude, who always sulks and complains, and it’s a blessing that Man United finally has an attacker who plays with enthusiasm.”
No offence to Parker, but he is talking like somebody who is no longer involved in the game. Oh wait.
It’s not that easy to find a replacement for a player with Martial’s experience, if fit, in the academy. And Ten Hag has to deal with the players he’s got available, especially after the recent Antony and Jadon Sancho episodes.
The fact Parker is trying to justify people calling for the manager’s head this early is another telling sign not to listen to a word he has to say on the matter.
