Manchester United add final summer signing in the form of 20-year-old free agent

Kie Plumley

Manchester United have completed their summer business with an addition to the academy.

As per Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils have acquired 20-year-old Kie Plumley, who was released by Oxford United at the end of the 2022/2023 campaign having never made a first-team appearance for the League One outfit.

He did complete loan spells to aid his development into senior football, though, which included lower league sides Weston-super-mare and Beaconsfield.

The self-proclaimed boyhood Red will now be looking to showcase his abilities in the reserves and hopefully, progress into Erik ten Hag’s squad; Plumley has been registered on United’s eligible under-21 players in their final Premier League squad list, but this is not a tell-tale sign that he’ll feature anytime soon.

United’s goalkeeping overhaul

Ten Hag oversaw a complete revamp between the sticks this summer, with David de Gea replaced after 12 years at the club and Dean Henderson leaving in a permanent exit to Crystal Palace.

Andre Onana was subsequently sought to fill the No.1 void, and Turkish international Altay Bayindir signed from Fenerbache to provide coverage.

Reports suggest that Ten Hag has scheduled talks with Onana regarding his international involvement with Cameroon as if he intends to represent his country at next year’s AFCON tournament, he could miss up to five weeks of club action.
