Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri has been in the headlines during the international break for Tunisia’s win over Egypt, but he has now emerged as a target for Turkish side Besiktas.
That is according to Turkish publication Fanatik who claim Besiktas manager Senol Gunes has requested a No. 10 and they have until Friday’s transfer deadline to deliver on that front.
In other words, they’re running out of time and I don’t think Hannibal is a player United can afford to give away without serious thought because Erik ten Hag isn’t well stocked in the midfield department as it is.
And, I don’t think Donny van de Beek staying changes that because I would be giving Premier League minutes to Hannibal over the Netherlands international.
Hannibal spent last season on loan at Birmingham City, making 21 appearances for the Championship outfit, scoring one goal and registering five assists (via WhoScored).
Anyhow, it is believed Besiktas have their focus on the 20-year-old and have even made contact with United over a deal. They initially offered a loan deal with a purchase option but this was turned down.
Now, it’s believed Besiktas have returned with another proposal of a dry loan but United are reluctant to let Hannibal go. Deadline tomorrow or not, let them sweat if they didn’t take the hint the first time around.
The publication themselves point the finger at Ten Hag because the manager has seemingly yet to make a decision on whether to keep Hannibal at United.
If nothing was sorted for Hannibal up until this point, I think he should be planning for spending the first half of the season at Old Trafford. Let’s not pretend it’s a bad place for a young talented player to develop.
