Lisandro Martinez worries continue for Manchester United

Lisandro Martinez was not included in Argentina’s match day squad for their 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Ecuador.

The Manchester United centre-back has not played since he came off with a foot injury in the 3-1 loss to Arsenal.

Martinez shared a post on Instagram showing a picture of himself walking out for Argentina training. It was captioned: “ready for what’s coming”. He would have been joined by United starlet Alejandro Garnacho, who was also called up to the Argentina squad.

It raises the question why he travelled to be with the Argentina squad if he wasn’t fit enough to be part of the match day squad?

This will come as a concern for United because there are no doubts over whether Martinez will be available to face Brighton and Bayern Munich in the coming days.

Raphael Varane is still in the treatment room and Victor Lindelof played in both of Sweden’s Euro 2024 qualifiers after recovering from illness. Ten Hag has Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans to select from too…

So, I guess now you can tell why United will be concerned about Martinez’s fitness.

Brighton and Bayern are two huge fixtures for United after a poor start to the Premier League and the second fixture sees the Reds return to the Champions League.
