Erik ten Hag will reportedly hold talks with Andre Onana to establish his plans at international level, as per The Mirror.

The goalkeeper recently returned to the Cameroon national team following a break due to a fall-out with coach Rigobert Song at the 2022 World Cup; they had locked horns over his play style and the manager’s tactical approach. Onana then made the decision to retire from international duty.

Ten Hag was under the impression that this would continue to be the case when he signed the ‘keeper from Inter Milan this summer, as Onana had stated that he had no desire to represent his country again. However, he has since changed his mind after discussions with Song and pressure from the Cameroon government and the Football Federation.

Onana played during the side’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Burundi on Tuesday and kept a clean sheet across the 3-0 victory, meaning Cameroon booked their spot in next year’s tournament.

Onana could be absent for up to five weeks

Should he travel to feature in the competition, Onana could be unavailable for up to nine United fixtures; four in the Premier League, two in the FA Cup, two League Cup matches and a Champions League knockout tie.

Erik ten Hag would be forced to call upon new arrival Altay Bayindir, who signed on September 1 from Fenerbache and is yet to make an appearance for United.

The Red Devils are also set to be without Sofyan Amrabat (Morocco), Hannibal Mejbri (Tunisia) and Amad Diallo (Ivory Coast).
