Journalist rebuffs El Ghazi to United claims, says young winger is set to feature more

Sancho Antony

Journalist Laurie Whitwell has dismissed claims that Manchester United are interested in signing free agent Anwar El Ghazi

The Red Devils had been linked with the former Aston Villa player as an emergency, stop-gap option due to Antony and Jadon Sancho’s situations at Old Trafford.

Antony is now overseeing a period of absence while he addresses allegations of abuse and assault, while Sancho’s public feud with Erik ten Hag has seemingly been left unresolved following clear-the-air talks. Speculation suggests that he could push for a January exit.

Should they continue to be omitted from the squad, it leaves United in a sticky situation in terms of depth, but they won’t be calling on El Ghazi.

United to call upon young wingers

Whitwell says that Facundo Pellistri was kept at Old Trafford this summer – as opposed to going out on loan – as the club are keen to grant him first-team chances. Alejandro Garnacho is capable of playing on the right flank, while Ten Hag could also utilise Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount there and out of their usual positions.
