Gareth Southgate insists Jadon Sancho still has England career

Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has not been called up to the England squad since 2021.

This made it the latest media storm to surround Sancho a topic of conversation this week when England manager Gareth Southgate spoke too reporters.

Although it will take a lot of work, as it will to get into Erik ten Hag’s plans after his recent comments, Southgate admitted Sancho can still force his way back into the national team set-up.

It is no secret that Southgate has never fancied the 23-year-old, who hit back at Ten Hag after being left out of the squad for the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal before the International break.

However, Sancho has not been called up to the England squad for almost two years and his last appearance for his country was back in October 2021.

That should tell everything about his time at United following a mega-money transfer from Borussia Dortmund, which saw him become one of United’s highest earners at such a young age.

Since moving to Old Trafford in 2021, Sancho has made 82 appearances, scoring 12 goals and managing six assists.

England take on Scotland tonight at Hampden Park and, speaking before the match, Southgate told reporters that Sancho can work his way back into the squad at some point in the future. United have three players involved: Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay.

“I think that’s the challenge for him now,” Southgate said, as per the Manchester Evening News. “It’s been the best part of a couple of years since we worked with him, it’s difficult to say exactly the position that he finds himself and where he is with it all.

“But for every player that’s not with us, there is always an opportunity if they can seize the form and have the (right) level of performances.”

Sancho has made 23 senior caps for England, scoring three goals and registering seven assists, but he needs to start firing for United before he can rekindle his career on the international stage.
