Bruno Fernandes has won Manchester United’s award for Player of the Month in August.

The Portuguese Magnifico was made club captain during the summer and he has started the season with three appearances, one goal and one assist. Erik ten Hag gave him the armband after taking it off Harry Maguire, which was a decision that led to criticism from some sections of the media.

Those critics forgot that Fernandes wore the armband for much of last season. I, for one, believe he has what it takes to lead United to success.

And, is there a better way to start the new season on an individual note than winning the club’s Player of the Month award for August?

In a post on social media, Manchester United confirmed Fernandes as our player of the month.

The Portugal international earned the award after carrying United’s attack in August. Fernandes’ efforts see him rank first for ‘big chances created’ and ‘most expected assists’ but, without a centre-forward in the team until now, his creativity often goes to waste.

Against Wolves in our opening game of the 2023/24 campaign, Fernandes played a through ball to Aaron Wan-Bissaka who provided the assist for Raphael Varane’s winner.

However, Fernandes’ performance against Tottenham was below par. It didn’t help that the two clear chances he created went to waste either.

The 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest is the reason Fernandes claims this award because hey was instrumental in helping United come from behind.

Fernandes provided an assist and scored the winner from the penalty spot.

Hopefully, Fernandes and co reach new levels when they are joined in the team by Rasmus Hojlund. The Danish striker is expected to make his debut against Arsenal on Sunday.
