Altay Bayindir completes Manchester United transfer after signing four-year deal

Manchester United have completed the signing of goalkeeper Altay Bayindir on a four-year deal.

Bayindir has joined from Fenerbahce in a €5 million deal and is set to become Erik ten Hag’s second choice goalkeeper behind Andre Onana.

On another note, Bayindir is likely to become to first Turkish player to appear for the club.

The 25-year-old was confirmed as a new signing this morning – just hours after Dean Henderson completed his switch to Crystal Palace.

Speaking about his move to United, Bayindir told club media (via ManUtd.com): “It is a huge honour to join Manchester United and become the first Turkish player to represent this incredible club. I have a passion for success, and I will give everything to help this special group of players to achieve our ambitions.

“I cannot wait to start working with such an experienced goalkeeping unit. We will support each other and drive high standards every day so that each of us is ready to perform whenever called upon.”

This is not a signing that will excite many, but it is one that we needed due to Tom Heaton’s injury. Now, United have cover for Onana if they need it.

Bayindir becomes United’s fourth signing of the summer after Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund. Furthermore, are expecting one or two more players to sign before tonight’s 11pm deadline.

United’s football director John Murtough added: “Altay is an excellent addition to our squad and adds further quality to our already strong group of experienced goalkeepers.

“Having consistently performed at a high level in a strong European league, he has the qualities to support us in achieving our ambitions across all competitions this season and beyond.”
