Harry Maguire is expected to be called up for England when Gareth Southgate confirms his squad later today, as per The Telegraph.
The centre-back is yet to feature for Manchester United this season, having spent the first three games as an unused substitute.
Raphael Varane’s injury may have put Maguire in contention to feature against Arsenal on Sunday, however, it’s more likely that Erik ten Hag will deploy Victor Lindelof to partner Lisandro Martinez at the Emirates.
Last term, Maguire made just eight Premier League starts across the campaign and was stripped of the captaincy following the conclusion of the season.
United had accepted a £30 million bid from West Ham earlier in August for the Englishman, which would’ve seen him utilised frequently and viewed as a leadership figure, but he did not agree personal terms with the London outfit.
Maguire’s minutes could impact Euros place
Still, Southgate will call upon his trusty lieutenant yet again despite his significant lack of game time. If the situation continues as it is though, the Three Lions boss would struggle to justify Maguire’s place in the Euro 2024 squad, and the 30-year-old could be omitted from the tournament.
Marcus Rashford will likely get the nod too, while Luke Shaw’s injury will mean he misses out. It remains to be seen if Jadon Sancho will return to the England setup soon.
Southgate will announce the squad at 2pm BST.
