Xavi reportedly blocked Marcos Alonso’s potential loan move to Manchester United, as per Christian Falk.

The Red Devils had earmarked Alonso as a potential option to fill in for Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, as both left-backs are currently overseeing an extended spell on the sidelines.

Erik ten Hag opted to deploy Diogo Dalot out of positing during United’s win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday rather than calling upon 20-year-old Alvaro Fernandez, who is yet to make a senior appearance with the club.

Unite’s left-back shortlist

Alonso, Sergio Reguilon, Nicolas Tagliafico and Marc Cururella were all on Ten Hag’s shortlist to provide coverage in Shaw’s absence, and it’s the latter that now looks the most likely to sign this summer; United submitted a loan proposal to Chelsea today and have agreed personal terms with the Spaniard.

He was seemingly the first choice due to the club’s quick approach, so they won’t mind about Xavi’s interference in their Alonso interest.
