Raphael Varane sustained an injury during Manchester United’s win over Nottingham Forest and now faces an extended spell on the sidelines.
It’s quite literally the last thing any United fan – or Erik ten Hag for that matter – needs to hear right now.
Mason Mount and Luke Shaw have already been ruled out for foreseeable weeks and now the squad’s most reliable and experienced centre-half joins them in the treatment clinic. When it rains, it pours.
United’s growing injury list
As well as that, several Reds had already been deemed unfit at the beginning of the season, including Rasmus Hojlund, Tyrell Malacia and Kobbie Mainoo, leaving Ten Hag considerably short when it comes to depth across the pitch.
The Frenchman will consequently miss Sunday’s trip to the Emirates to face Arsenal, which is followed by a short international break, and will be focusing on his recovery and rehabilitation, as per Kaveh Solhekol via Football Daily.

Victor Lindelof is likely to partner Lisandro Martinez in Varane’s absence.
