Manchester United U18s were back in action in the Premier League North as they faced Stoke City away from home.
The manager fielded this XI: Tom Myles, Jaydan Kamason, Bendito Mantato, Jack Kingdon (C), Reece Munro, Jacob Devaney, Jayce Fitzgerald, Ashton Missin, Jack Moorhouse, James Scanlon, Victor Musa. Subs: Zachary Bauman, Freddie Heath, Ruben Curley, Shea Lacey, Gabriele Biancheri.
In the first half both teams were quite active. United had to make an early substitution after Jaydan Kamason got injured with Shea Lacey coming on. It was Shea who kept looking for chances to score but his shot hit the bar in the 27th minute.
Ashton Missin had another chance two minutes later but it was blocked and Stoke City managed to start a counter-attack from there. It did not take long and Jack Moorhouse’s powerful left met the back of the net. Stoke reacted immediately but Tom Myles was quick enough to recover from his mistake. Lacey proved to be problematic for the opposition because they couldn’t keep up with him.
James Scanlon was eager to score and he did so after a ball from Jayce Fitzgerald fell to his feet. His shot was saved initially, as it was directly at the keeper, however he made no mistake with the rebound.
Ten minutes later Biancheri, who had recently came in as a substitute, did well enough to get inside the area but was fouled. The referee pointed towards the spot and he took the penalty before sending the keeper the wrong way. At this point, the job was done for United.
However, there was more to come as James Scanlon scored the fourth goal of the game. Later, Stoke scored following an incident that saw Myles and a Stoke City player injured. Myles was good to continue but the opposition player had to come off, leaving Stoke with 10 players and no substitutions available.
In the end, the U18s gained their deserved three points from the game and have scored 8 and only conceded 1 in the first two games of the season, both away from home.
