Manchester United have earmarked Barcelona’s Marcos Alonso as a potential stop-gap signing to fill in at left-back, as per The Telegraph.
He joins Marc Cucurella and Sergio Reguilon on Erik ten Hag’s shortlist, with the club keen to sanction an arrival before the September 1 deadline.
It comes after the news that Luke Shaw would face an extended spell on the sidelines with a muscular injury, while next-in-line Tyrell Malacia is also ruled out of action for the foreseeable future.
United struggle in Shaw’s absence
Consequently, the manager deployed Diogo Dalot out of position for yesterday’s clash with Nottingham Forest and the Portugal international looked off the pace while he adjusted to the makeshift role. The only other option is 20-year-old Alvaro Fernandez, who is yet to make a senior appearance with United.
Shaw could be out until November, which is a real concern given his reliability and the threat that he contributes on the attack. Alonso, 32, spent six years with Chelsea before leaving for Barcelona, so he boasts a plethora of Premier League experience.
Give the young lad a chance. There is no point developing youth talent if all we do is sell them to other clubs and buy someone else.
Utd always talk about how they bring through the youth players. Not many get a proper chance in the team. Now is that chance. Have faith in the lads.
