Christian Eriksen has opened up on Manchester United’s substandard start to the 2023/2024 season.

The Red Devils are preparing for their third fixture of the campaign – a home clash with Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

So far, they have picked up one win and one loss, though the performances across both matches were concerningly similar and off-the-pace.

Eriksen may be named in the starting line-up for the first time this term after it was confirmed that Mason Mount would be facing a spell on the sidelines with an injury. The Englishman could be out of action for four to six weeks.

Erik ten Hag will be adamant about seeing a drastic turnaround from his squad, and the players themselves know that there’s more than enough room for improvement.

Eriksen believes form will pick up

Speaking ahead of matchday in this week’s United Review, Eriksen admitted that the season has started differently from what they expected, but there’s plenty of time to put things right.

“I think we are not in the place we wanted to be result-wise. Obviously, it’s just the start of the season. The only positive is we started better than last season, a few more points than last season. But I think we all know that we can and we want to be a lot better.

“I mean it’s difficult, you can always look back [to what happened at the start of last term] but, in the end, you’re going to do what you can and that is in the present. And we will have to work a lot to change and get a better feeling than what we had a few days ago.”
