Manchester United are closing in on a one-year deal with Jonny Evans, as per The Telegraph

The Northern Ireland international returned to Carrington this summer in a bid to keep his fitness levels high ahead of the new season, after his contract with Leicester City expired following their relegation to the Championship.

When fit, Evans was a mainstay in the Foxes line-up and was even named club captain for his final season at the club so if he stays at United, he’ll certainly have to lower his expectations for game time.

Ten Hag’s options at centre-back

The transfer would raise concerns over Harry Maguire’s future at Old Trafford, as Erik ten Hag would have more than enough cover at centre-back to warrant selling the Englishman – especially when considering his wages.

Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez are the favoured pairing for the manager, followed by Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw, Maguire and Evans.

Evans, 35, may be named on the bench for the first time when the Reds take on Nottingham Forest at home this Saturday.
