Mason Greenwood will leave Manchester United after the club concluded their internal investigation into his 2022 arrest.

United confirmed in a statement on Monday that Greenwood will recommence his career away from Old Trafford.

Greenwood released his own statement simultaneously to say it is “the best decision for all of us” while also saying he “did not do the things” he has been accused of.

A statement issued by Greenwood read (via ESPN): “I want to start by saying I understand that people will judge me because of what they have seen and heard on social media, and I know people will think the worst.

“I was brought up to know that violence or abuse in any relationship is wrong, I did not do the things I was accused of, and in February I was cleared of all charges. However, I fully accept I made mistakes in my relationship, and I take my share of responsibility for the situations which led to the social media post.

“Today’s decision has been part of a collaborative process between Manchester United, my family and me.

“The best decision for us all, is for me to continue my football career away from Old Trafford, where my presence will not be a distraction for the club.”

The 21-year-old was arrested in January 2022 on suspicion of rape and assault after images and an audio file were shared on social media. Furthermore, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) dropped all the charges in February.

There is one grey area from United’s statement because they never announced if they are going to terminate Greenwood’s contract, so more on that when we have it.

  1. Whether it’s rachel riley or any other person that has force the club to come to this alterly confused agreement to send greenwood away from this club will not go unpunish by GOD.
And i think at this juncture i’m done with this confuse, immature and unorganise club
A man is always free until found guilty by the court of law
I wish you well in your and decorated career

  2. It is sad to know Mason will no longer be plying his trade in Manchester United. I feel sorry for the young man.
It’s a lesson for upcoming talents which I hope they learn from.
However, I feel he deserved a second chance, because we have had an incidence in the past were a player was charged and suspended for drug related crime, yet he was reintegrated into the team after his suspension.
An African proverb says; “you don’t throw away the baby with the dirty water.”
I wish him well in his future endeavor.

  3. Some of us loved the player. It is unfortunate that the club despite struggling in many arrears of the game decided to terminate the services of a talented kid. This is definitely not the best decision. I wish Greenwood the best in his career.
