Raphael Varane has reportedly rebuffed interest from Saudi Pro League side Al Itttihad, as per Sports Zone.

The Saudis have seemingly set their sights on the four-time Champions League winner to complete their European summer swoop, and have tasked their high-profile players with getting a deal over the line; Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante, whom shared the stage with Varane at international level, have been in touch to try and lure the defender into joining them.

However, the report adds that Varane, 30, has declined the proposal and is adamant about staying in Europe for at least one more season. This, in turn, could mean that he departs United next summer despite being contracted with the club until 2025.

Varane leaving would come as huge blow to United

The former France international has been a mainstay in Erik ten Hag’s squad and has played a pivotal role in the resurgence happening at Old Trafford. His experience, quality and leadership would be sorely missed if he did agree an exit next year.

Varane also recently voiced his concerns over the fixture congestion for top-flight footballers, which is set to worsen when the new Champions League format is introduced, so this may influence his decision to bring the curtains down on his trophy-laden and triumphant European career.
