Wolves defender reflects on defeat at Old Trafford after VAR controversy

Max Kilman felt Wolves deserved something from their trip to Old Trafford on Monday night.

Gary O’Neil’s side created chances against Manchester United but were unable to take advantage of them. It proved costly in the second half when Raphael Varane’s header won the match.

Kilman was disappointed with the result but pleased with the performance. On top of that, the Wolves defender believes they should’ve been awarded a penalty for Andre Onana’s challenge in stoppage time.

“It was a crazy game, end-to-end stuff, and we had a lot of chances in the second half, so I thought we would have scored,” Kilman said, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News. “We looked like a great side, considering we had four days with the new manager.

“Credit to everyone, we stuck to the game plan and worked really hard. We had a lot of chances, which at Old Trafford isn’t easy, and it’s something to build on.

“They were good opportunities, not half chances. Coming to Old Trafford is very difficult, against a top Man United side, so we’ve got to build and be ready for Saturday.

“I was right next to it and saw some clips after and I thought it was a penalty. Some decisions don’t go your way, but you need to look forward to the next game. The referees make their decisions and we have to respect that.”

Wolves have another difficult game this weekend when Brighton come to Molineux. O’Neill will need his players to be more clinical in front of goal if they intend to take anything from the game.

Meanwhile, United travel to Harry Kane-less Tottenham on Saturday, but we also need to be more clinical in front of goal. Roll on Rasmus Hojlund’s debut (likely to be against Arsenal in a few weeks).
