Manchester United vs Wolves officials dropped after penalty controversy

The officials for Monday night’s 1-0 win over Wolves have been given a slap on the wrist.

Raphael Varane found the back of the net in the second half to seal the win for Manchester United, however, it came with an underwhelming performance from Erik ten Hag’s side.

Wolves manager Gary O’Neil was furious after his team were denied a late penalty when debutant Andre Onana crashed into Sasa Kalajdsiz and failed to make contact with the ball.

As a result, the officials at the centre of the controversy have been axed from this weekend’s fixtures, as per The Guardian.

That includes referee Simon Hooper, video assistant referee Michael Salisbury and assistant VAR Richard West. It comes as a slap on the wrist for not rewarding Wolves a penalty in stoppage time.

Hooper initially waved on play after the incident, but then VAR took place. He proceeded to book O’Neil for his touchline behaviour, whilst upholding the decision.

We all left Old Trafford feeling a bit lucky because Onana got nowhere near the ball. I’ll happily wait to see him face his first penalty in a United shirt.
