Harry Maguire transfer to West Ham collapses

Many thought Harry Maguire was on the verge of signing for West Ham – but the transfer has collapsed.

According to The Athletic, the deal stalled due to the terms of Maguire’s exit being negotiated.

West Ham cleared the first hurdle a week ago when they had a £30 million bid accepted for the 30-year-old defender.

However, sources close to Maguire stress that personal terms were never agreed and the player did not speak to West Ham manager David Moyes about a move.

It’s a strange one because I would have thought Maguire wanted to get back playing regular football. Something he is unlikely to get at United this season unless we suffered a number of defensive injuries throughout the campaign.

This could be a missed opportunity for Maguire if he intends on making the England squad for the Euros.

Maguire has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford, especially since Erik ten Hag’s arrival as the Dutchman signed Lisandro Martinez from Ajax only to partner the Argentine with Raphael Varane at centre-back. Victor Lindelof is next in line and it’s worth noting how Ten Hag preferred Luke Shaw to Maguire at centre-back last season.

He also lost the captain’s armband at United earlier this summer.

  1. No chance Maguire will leave United before his contract expires. Those who could afford his wages don’t want him, and those who would like to take him will not be able to pay his wages. United Should write him off as a world record loss and use him as a stop gap reserve. Maybe he could help the reserve team some. This man is not going to give up a sweet, sweet, deal just to compete!! No way!!
