Manchester United have concrete interest in Amadou Onana and have approached Everton over a potential sale, as per The Guardian

The Toffees are unwilling to sanction the exit of their star man in midfield after he played a vital role in keeping them in the top flight last season.

Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag is looking to build on a promising first term at Old Trafford, which can only be done by strengthening his squad. United have already overseen the arrivals of Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund, but the Dutch boss is adamant about acquiring another midfielder before the window slams shut.

Onana, 21, is valued at a minimum of £50 million by Everton, though they have stressed that they are under no financial pressure to sanction his exit this summer. Sean Dyche’s priority is a striker and the board believes they can grant him one without needing to offload their most valuable assets – Onana being one.

United interest could sway Onana to push for move

They may face pressure, however, if the player hears of United’s interest and pushes for the move himself. The Red Devils boast Champions League football this term, although the Belgian international is unlikely to be a frequent starter given the side’s depth and quality in the middle of the park.
