Andre Onana feeling ‘calm and confident’ ahead of official Manchester United debut

Andre Onana will take between the sticks at Old Trafford for the first time in a competitive fixture this evening.

The Cameroonian makes his official debut tonight when the Reds take on Wolverhampton Wanderers and as expected, he’s been named in Erik ten Hag’s starting line-up – as has fellow new arrival Mason Mount.

Fans will have to wait a little longer for Rasmus Hojlund’s first outing though, as he is sidelined until early September with a back injury.

United kick-off their 2023/2024 campaign on home turf, where they tasted defeat just once in the league last season.

Onana has been sought not only to keep clean sheets and strengthen the defensive unit but also to help create attacks from the back and find his forward teammates with his long-range passing abilities.

He spent pre-season with the squad so has already grown slightly accustomed to the manager’s playing style, however, the real test begins now.

Onana in high spirits ahead of debut

Ahead of kick-off, he told Sky Sports: “We have so many qualities. We have good players, we are very good on transition and it is important for us to keep the ball. Organise the situation, but I am very calm and confident and I know if we do the right things, everything will be alright.”
